• Why are you doing this?

The word doctor means "teacher". For me, being a teacher to my patients has been one of the most rewarding parts of my medical career. I suppose, when I was practicing medicine, that is why I was always booked solid for weeks in advance! I don't mind taking the time to teach someone about their health; I believe that someone who knows what they are doing and why they are doing it will get the most out of their time with the doctor. I have worked in one of the wealthiest parts of Southern California, and I have worked with poor, uneducated, indigent, and homeless patients at county hospitals and free clinics. The thing both groups have in common is that they do not speak "doctor-talk"! Everyone needs to understand what it is they are doing!

• What do you get out of this?

You want a straight answer? I was put on disability in May 2000. Once I got well, my husband and I realized neither one of us wanted me to return to work. That decision was one of the best I have ever made! As a consequence, however, I have gone from quite a good income to NO income! I thought of starting this website to try and change that situation.
